6 Holiday Outfits For Every Occasion

It’s almost the end of the year which means that Christmas is just around the corner. The past two years have meant that people are not as accustomed to dressing up for the holidays due to restrictions and lockdowns so I’m offering up a refresher for those who are interested! I have compiled a little list of my favourite holiday outfits for any occasion from opening gifts to holiday parties!

  1. Unwrapping gifts on Christmas morning

Let’s start with the comfiest outfit. This is the perfect outfit to wear when opening your gifts on Christmas morning. While others opt for a cute matching PJ set, I prefer to wear sweatpants and a nice sweater. Here, I’m wearing a red sweater I thrifted a few years ago ($7.99), a pair of Roots pants (psstt… the beavers have little Christmas hats on) that my mom thrifted for me (~$6.99), and a grey hat from Urban Planet. The hat helps to tie together the colours on the outfit. You can be sure I’ll be wearing this cute outfit this Christmas morning!

2. Christmas lunch w/ the family

Are you looking for a nice outfit to wear to your Christmas lunch? Try this cute but casual skirt look! I decided to draw on those ‘Christmas-y’ colours of red, green, and white to put this look together. I have this adorable Brandy Melville skirt that I thrifted ($6.99) that has that distinctive Christmas plaid on it that I decided to pair with this white long-sleeved mock-neck from Zara. Together, with white socks or nude tights, this is a cute and casual outfit for any occasion! It’s even reminiscent of one of Rachel Green’s outfits from Friends!

3. Office party look

Again, I decided to use this beautiful red suit jacket to make this outfit pop! A general rule for me when putting together a business casual outfit is jeans + tshirt/sweater + blazer. I did just that for this outfit but with a xmas twang. My jeans are thrifted but they are the Nina wide-leg jeans from Frank & Oak in washed black. My sweater is also thrifted but originally from Giant Tiger, and my blazer (again, thrifted) is a no-name as the tag was taken out. Add a few accessories like my rings, glasses, and earrings and you’ve got yourself an outfit!

4. Going out to the Christmas market

This is a more bundled up look because what is the holiday season without being bundled up? I imagine going out for a stroll with a hot chocolate in hand with this outfit. I am wearing my favourite black trousers, a green mock-neck from Value Village, a beige coat from H&M, a scarf from Urban Planet, and a hat I was gifted by my friend/OMG photographer Emily. I think pairing together the earth tones with the plaid is a good choice as everything jives together pretty well.

5. Fancy Christmas party look

This look feels so 90s glam! It seriously feels like something you would see in a hit 90s movie where the female lead shows up to the big event and everybody is turning heads! Here, I am wearing a black velour dress that my boyfriend bought for me and these beautiful ‘baroque link’ earrings by Fifth Avenue Collection. I would pair this look with a nice chunky heel or some low-key loafers if I wanted a flat shoe. Also, I think a big statement coat might be nice with this!

6. New Year’s Eve look

What screams New Year’s like sparkles?! I bought this dress to wear to the Harry Styles’ Love On Tour show in July 2020 (rip) but I never got to wear it so here is a good option! Layering is your friend in the winter to bring new life to your summer/spring pieces. So, I have layered a black long-sleeved mockneck shirt from Simons under this dress from H&M, with black tights. I would also wear black boots and a black coat with this outfit. Pairing silver jewelry with this is also the way to go!

That’s it! I hope you enjoyed this list and make sure to check out my instagram @_marissagalko for more fashion and journalism content! Happy holidays from the OMG team to you!
